emilitaIt's been a tough few days, since on the 7th it was the 4th anniversary of the death of one of my best friends. Micki was 12 years older than I was and we became friends when she worked with my mom. Soon, she babysat myself and my brother. After we outgrew the need, Micki moved to Florida but we still kept in touch through email and snail mail. When she moved to South Carolina, things looked like they were settling down with her studies and her health. But when I was 17, on 7/7/07, ironically supposed to be the luckiest day ever, we got a call that Micki had caught strep throat when on a trip to England. With her lupus, the strep killed her.
It still hurts so much to think about, and I still remember her everyday, but it's getting easier to think that I just need to keep going and live my life. Micki, for all intents and purposes, was my older sister and I choose to remember her attacking us with a sprinkler and sunbathing with me on our front porch instead of sick and in pain. Love you, Micki.
